«DENICOLAI & PROVOOST travaillent ensemble depuis 1997. Ils se détachent de toutes les formes artistiques conventionnelles et produisent un art sérieux et exact qui, dans un sens sociologique, observe et analyse des faits économiques et des réalités sociales. Ces observations se manifestent alors d'elles-même d'une manière presque espiègle et, vraisemblablement, développe des images qui permettent de faire ressortir les complexités sous-jacentes. Leur travail incorpore l'entièreté du spectre de la couverture médiatique comme outil de leur stratégie artistique. » (Konstanze Shütze).

Artistes multidisciplinaires, le duo italo-belge Denicolai & Provoost travaille avec, mais sans s'y limiter, l'animation, les objets, les installations, la performance, la vidéo, l'édition...
Ils proposent volontiers des protocoles collaboratifs et processuels, parfois sur long terme, parfois sous forme de performance ponctuelle, qui impliquent des complicités et des collaborations avec des acteurs qui ne sont pas nécessairement liés au monde de l'art, et qui sont à plein titre des constituants des mondes qui nous entourent.
Ils empruntent volontiers des éléments existants dans un contexte pour les associer, dissocier, les assembler formuler un langage inédit. Ils fonctionnent d'avantage comme des intermédiaires entre les différents composants d'un contexte, pour faire naître un dialogue au travers de leurs propres formes.
C'est cette position de l'intermédiaire (ou de ‘régisseur du réel') qui les intéresse le plus. Quel est le rôle de l'artiste dans la cité ?
Dans l'intimité esthétique et politique de leur processus de digestion artistique, Denicolai & Provoost questionnent la liberté donnée aux artistes dans nos sociétés occidentales, dites démocratiques. Leur travail inclut le spectre entier des possibilités de couverture médiatique, tels des outils pour créer leur univers.
